The Couples Roadmap โ€” Anchor Light Couples Therapy
The Couples Roadmap ยท Anchor Light Couples Therapy

It's not about how you communicate.
It's about who you become under pressure.

The Couples Roadmap is a guided online program that gives you access to the same process you'd experience working with one of our therapists at Anchor Light โ€” at your own pace, together.

Why This Program Exists

The problem almost never is what you think it is

"It's not that you're incompatible. It's not that your partner doesn't care. It's not that the spark is gone."

It's that when things get hard โ€” when you're under pressure โ€” something takes over. You spiral. You turn into someone you don't recognize. And once things start escalating, you don't know how to back out of it. No matter how much you want to do it differently, in the moment you can't.

Most couples who are struggling have already tried. They've read the books. But tools only work if you can access them. And in the moments that matter most โ€” when things get heated, when something lands the wrong way โ€” the tools disappear. Something deeper takes over.

The Couples Roadmap was built for that gap.

The Core Idea

When the storm blows through,
who are you becoming?

We all have a survival self. When fear kicks in and things start to escalate, the survival self takes over. It fights, or it flees, or it shuts down. It does something to get you through.

It's not a character flaw. It's your nervous system doing exactly what it was built to do โ€” protect you. The problem is, your nervous system treats your partner like the enemy. And suddenly you're two people who love each other but can't find each other.

"Your anchored self is the part of you that responds from love instead of fear. It doesn't mean you're not scared. It means something in you stays tethered โ€” to what you know, to who you love, to why you're here."

The Framework

Two selves. One relationship.

The Couples Roadmap is built on one central idea โ€” and two central concepts. Everything in the program flows from understanding these.

Concept 01

The Survival Self

The collection of behaviors and reflexes your nervous system developed โ€” usually long before this relationship โ€” to keep you safe when things felt threatening. It has four moves: The Fighter, The Freezer, The Fawner, and The Fixer. Each one made sense at some point. In an intimate relationship, each one creates the disconnection it was trying to prevent.

Concept 02

The Anchored Self

The part of you that can stay steady through the storm. That responds from love instead of fear. That remembers what's true about the person you love even when fear is telling you to protect yourself. Your anchored self doesn't mean you're not hurt or scared โ€” it means something in you stays tethered. That's what this program is building toward.

Your survival self has four distinct moves.

Understanding which one you reach for โ€” and why โ€” is the foundation of everything that follows in the program.

The Fighter The Freezer The Fawner The Fixer

The Fighter moves toward. Gets louder. Pushes until something lands. The Freezer goes silent. Walls off completely. The Fawner appeases. Agrees. Makes themselves small to keep the peace. The Fixer bypasses the feeling and jumps straight to solutions.

The Program

A journey of healing โ€” not a curriculum

The Couples Roadmap moves through seven parts. Each one is designed to take you deeper than the one before it โ€” from understanding, to doing, to healing.

Phase 01
Going Underneath

Before anything can change, you have to understand what's actually driving the breakdown. Not the argument on the surface โ€” what's happening inside you and between you when things go wrong.

Phase 02
Seeing the Pattern

Every survival self move produces a pattern in the conversation. You'll learn to see your pattern together โ€” clearly, honestly, and without blame. Neither of you is the problem. The pattern is.

Phase 03
Speaking From the Right Place

The same feeling, the same need, the same hurt can be expressed in a way that opens a conversation or closes it entirely. What determines which way it goes isn't the feeling โ€” it's who is doing the talking.

Phase 04
Being Truly Heard

How you listen is just as important as how you speak. You'll learn to make your partner feel genuinely seen โ€” not just heard, but understood in a way that opens something between you.

Phase 05
Repair

The hurt that hasn't been fully acknowledged. The accountability that hasn't quite landed. The trust that needs rebuilding. This is where the deeper healing happens.

Phase 06 โ€” 07
Building Forward

By the time you reach the end of this program, something will have changed โ€” not just in how you communicate or manage conflict, but in how you experience each other.

"Insight becomes experience. And that's where real change happens."

Who This Is For

Two people who love each other โ€” and are willing to show up

This program is designed for couples who are not in crisis, who love each other, and who are willing to commit to this process consistently.

  • You've slowly drifted apart and want to find your way back
  • You're in real pain but still showing up โ€” still fighting for something
  • You keep having the same argument and don't know how to stop
  • You want something better โ€” and you're willing to do the work to get there
  • Quality couples therapy isn't accessible right now โ€” but you're not willing to wait

What makes this different

It's not about absorbing information. It's about doing something โ€” together. Each module guides you through the kind of work you'd do in a therapy session. Not just understanding. Actually experiencing something different together. That's where things start to shift.

A note on fit

If you're navigating something serious โ€” active betrayal, untreated mental health issues, domestic violence, or safety concerns โ€” please work with a licensed therapist directly. This program isn't the right fit for that. For some couples this program will be everything they need. For others it will be the starting point that makes deeper work with a therapist more focused and more effective.

What's Included

Every tool you need โ€” nothing you don't

Each module includes video, individual reflection exercises, couples exercises, and a weekly check-in ritual you'll carry through the entire program.

Video Modules

Short, direct video lessons from Laura โ€” the same concepts she walks couples through in her therapy room, distilled for self-guided use.

Individual Reflections

Guided exercises you complete alone โ€” designed to help you get specific about your own patterns, not communication in general.

Couples Exercises

Structured practice sessions you do together โ€” not processing sessions, but rehearsals. A chance to try something different before you need it in a real conflict.

Interactive Quizzes

The Survival Self Quiz, the Attachment Style Quiz, and the Communication Style in Conflict Quiz โ€” each one builds a clearer picture of your specific pattern.

Weekly Check-In Ritual

The Anchor Light Weekly Check-In โ€” a structured 20-minute conversation you'll use every week throughout the program to stay connected to what's actually happening between you.

Closing Materials

Going Deeper reflections and Anchor Light Activities at the end of each module โ€” designed to bring warmth and connection alongside the harder work.

About Laura Richer

Thousands of hours. Hundreds of couples. One consistent truth.

"We cannot thrive without quality relationships. When our relationships are suffering, everything suffers โ€” our work, our health, our self worth. It touches everything."

I'm a licensed couples therapist and I have spent my career sitting with couples. I've seen every version of this โ€” couples who have slowly drifted apart, couples who are in real pain and still showing up, couples who love each other deeply but can't find each other in the hard moments.

What both have in common is this: they love each other. And underneath all of it โ€” the arguments, the silence, the distance โ€” there is still a longing. To connect. To be truly known by this person.

I built The Couples Roadmap to give couples access to the same process they'd experience working with one of our therapists at Anchor Light โ€” because quality couples therapy isn't accessible to everyone. And a lot of couples who genuinely want help never get it, or get it too late.

This program is rooted in what I've watched work โ€” in real time, in my therapy room, with real couples. I draw from evidence-based approaches I've used throughout my career. The ones that have shown me again and again what actually moves the needle.

The love is still there.
That's something we can work with.

The fact that you're here โ€” that you're willing to look at this, to give time and attention to your relationship โ€” that already tells me something important about you. The goal is not perfection. The goal is to show up.

Common Questions

What you might be wondering

Do we both need to do this together?

Some parts of the program are individual โ€” you'll reflect alone before bringing what you've learned into the couples exercises. Both partners should be willing to engage with the material for it to work as intended.

Is this the same as couples therapy?

It's the same process and the same concepts โ€” but self-guided. For some couples this program will be everything they need. For others it will be a powerful starting point that makes deeper work with a therapist more focused and more effective.

We're not in crisis โ€” is this still for us?

Yes โ€” and it may be the most powerful time to do this work. The program is designed for couples who love each other and want to build something more resilient before things get worse, not only after they already have.

How long does each module take?

Each module includes a video, individual reflection exercises, a couples exercise, and a weekly check-in. Most couples spend one to two weeks per module, moving through the material on their own schedule.

What approaches is the program based on?

The program draws from evidence-based approaches Laura has used throughout her career in her therapy room โ€” the frameworks that have shown her again and again what actually moves the needle in couples work.

What if we've already tried everything?

Most couples who come to this program have already tried. The difference here isn't the information โ€” it's that this program asks you to do something, together, in a structured way. That's where things actually shift.
